On this #worldelephantday, we mourn the loss of Suki. One of the oldest and most beloved residents @ptdefiancezoo, Suki stood as an ambassador for elephants around the world. She offered a connection to her species, and that connection plays a vital role in the success of elephant conservation.
Last Saturday, the zoo veterinarian and animal care teams made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Suki after a steady decline in health over the past few weeks. At nearly 60, Suki lived far beyond the median life expectancy of 48 for female Asian elephants in human care.
Suki will be sorely missed by so many.
