Testimonial
“There are so many things I love about the zoo: the people that work and volunteer there are all cheerful and very knowledgeable, the work the zoo does for animals, the beauty of the zoo’s location, watching the youngsters when they visit, and the great experience the aquarium offers.”

What Does Your Support
Make Possible?

Whether you give once or every month, adopt a species, or plan a future gift, you’re helping Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium continue to provide first-class animal care, create meaningful experiences, inspire action, and protect wildlife and wild places.

Enrichment mimics the behaviors animals would do in the wild—think climbing structures for clouded leopards, puzzle feeders for sea otters, or new smells and sounds introduced to stimulate curiosity. These enhancements not only make zoo life more dynamic but also improve animal welfare overall.

Your gift directly contributes to enriching activities, habitat upgrades, and individualized care plans for every species at the zoo.

We believe connection inspires action. That’s why we raise funds for field trip and zoo camp scholarships that introduce the youth in our community to the wonder of wildlife through Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.
School field trips encourage curiosity and deepen environmental awareness. Donations ensure that thousands of kids across Pierce County experience the zoo, often for the first time. Currently, the scholarship program supports 6 school districts and all Tribal districts. With your help, we know we can reach our goal to open access to all 13 districts.
Zoo Camps offer hands-on educational programs for kids from preschool to 11th grade graduates. Each program focuses on empathy for wildlife, environmental stewardship, and biology tailored to the different ages of each camp group. Our goal is to provide scholarships for up to 20% of all camp spots each year – helping remove the financial barrier so more young people have the opportunity learn, explore, and grow through this interactive program.

The Youth Volunteer/Leadership Program empowers participants ages 14 to 18 to build confidence, develop leadership and communication skills, and explore careers in conservation. Through hands-on roles as zoo guides, senior guides, and camp counselors, participants gain job readiness experience while deepening their connection to wildlife and environmental stewardship. We provide financial programmatic support along with scholarships for senior guides to use toward their future endeavors.

Conservation is a responsibility we take very seriously. Community support helps safeguard endangered species and protect fragile ecosystems, both locally and around the globe.

The Zoo Society, in collaboration with Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, has raised over $2 million to fund groundbreaking conservation efforts—like Red Wolf recovery, polar bear tracking, and marine life preservation.
